Impedance Spectroscopy of Electrochromic Hydrous Tungsten Oxide Films

Tungsten oxide is a widely used electrochromic material with important applications in variable-transmittance smart windows as well other optoelectronic devices. Here we report on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy applied to hydrous tungsten films wide range of potentials. The were able reversibly bleach and color upon cycling. Interestingly, the bleaching potential was found be significantly higher than conventional non-hydrous films. Impedance spectra at low potentials showed good agreement anomalous diffusion models for ion transport At high potentials, where little intercalation takes place, it seems that parasitic side reactions influence spectra. dependence chemical capacitance, coefficient, analyzed. capacitance discussed terms electron density states evidence band tail extending below conduction edge.
